Oil painting dated 1919 by John Erasmuson who served on HMS Acheron. The flag signal appears to indicate, according to the Flotilla Signal Book of 1913, a turn to N 62° E, but the compass table may have changed and a different heading is possible. 'Shetland's roll of honour and roll of service' book of 1920 extract: JOHN WILLIAM ABERNETHY ERASMUSON, Signal-man, R.N.V.R., H.M. Destroyer " Acheron." West Shore, Scalloway. He was a well known amateur artist in Shetland. A painting he produced in 1970, two years before his death, can be found here.
