U.S.S. Sara Thompson was a tanker purchased by the U.S. Navy in 1918.

Construction

Built by William Armstrong, Mitchell & Co. as the Gut Heil for a German shipping company. Purchased 8 August, 1918 from J. W. Thompson of New York by the U.S. Navy for conversion to an oiler. Renamed Sara Thompson on 7 September, 1918.

Service

Commissioned on 17 September, 1918 with Commander Frederick S. Hayes, U.S.N.R.F. in command.
