H.M.S. Savage was one of sixteen destroyers of the Beagle class.

Service

In mid-1913, she was with Third Destroyer Flotilla.[7]

It was decided in mid-1914 that she, along with two of her sisters while they were apparently on Mediterranean service, was not to have a platform fitted abaft the 4-in gun.[8]

In early June, 1914, she was ordered with three other destroyers to proceed to Malta, to be commissioned for service with the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla, their Chtahm crews being replaced by new Portsmouth crews taking passage to Malta in the armoured cruiser Sutlej.[9] They departed Corfu for Malta on 18 June,[10] arriving in at Poros the next day.[11]

Henry Haire-Forster, who'd been in command since January 1913, was accorded Their Lordships' "severe displeasure" in the death of three men in an accident in July, 1914. It was deemed that Haire-Forster had shown a lack of seamanship more so than neglect in the affair.[12]
