H.M. T.B. 97 was one of ten first-class torpedo boats of the 140 Footer class.
Service
T.B. 97's three-hour full-power trial was conducted at Skelmorlie on 9 July, 1894. Delivered with a contract speed of 23 knots, over the course of six runs over a measured mile she made 23.71 knots on 170 psi, 363 rpm and 1,690 ihp.[4]
When she was completed, there were 79 first-class torpedo boats of 125 feet or longer.[5]
In 1895, she was one of six of her class sent to Gibraltar where they joined five other first-class torpedo boats.[6]
