Tonge served in the Nyasa Lake Flotilla from 23 January, 1915 to 31 May, 1918, being promoted to the rank of {{LCommRNR}} on 18 October, 1917.  After five months as her first officer during which he saw action on Sphynxhaven on 30 May 1915, he was appointed in command of the Protectorate Armed Vessel ''Gwendolyn'' from September 1915 to December of 1917.  He was made Senior Naval Officer on 1 June, 1918 and apparently served in this capacity until he was demobilised on 31 March, 1919.<ref>Tonge Service Record {{TNA|ADM 240/54/49.|}} f. 49.</ref>

Commander R.N.R. (retired) Cecil Graham Tonge, R.D. (4 December, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Tonge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 18 October, 1909.[1]

Tonge served in the Nyasa Lake Flotilla from 23 January, 1915 to 31 May, 1918, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 18 October, 1917. After five months as her first officer during which he saw action on Sphynxhaven on 30 May 1915, he was appointed in command of the Protectorate Armed Vessel Gwendolen from September 1915 to December of 1917. He was made Senior Naval Officer on 1 June, 1918 and apparently served in this capacity until he was demobilised on 31 March, 1919.[2]

World War II

Tonge did not serve, due to deafness. He was still submitted paperwork indicating his unsuitability for service in December 1948.[4]
