Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. Hugh Ross Mackay, D.S.C., R.N.R. ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Mackay was promoted to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. on 30 December, 1914. From early in the war, he was active with the Cromarty Minesweeping Flotilla, first appointed to Columbine, and then to Stephen Furness from 19 January, 1915 and then Thalia from 9 March, 1916.[1]
He engaged an enemy submarine on September 5, 1917. In early 1918, he was placed in command of Vasco da Gama for antisubmarine work near Liverpool.[2]
He was demobilised on 31 October 1919.[3]
