John I. Thornycroft and Company, commonly referred to as Thornycroft was a British shipbuilding firm that entered the field in 1866.
They excelled at constructing destroyers, and their "specials" (special designs to wring every last ounce of capability from the vessel) often helped advance the mark for other manufacturers.
