Jump to navigationJump to searchAir Commodore Edward Maitland Maitland, C.M.G., D.S.O., A.F.C., Royal Air Force (21 February, 1880 – 23 August, 1921) was for a decade the leading proponent of lighter-than-air aircraft in Great Britain. Commissioned into the army, he experimented with balloons and early airships before joining the Royal Naval Air Service before finally becoming an "Air Officer" in command of airships of the Royal Air Force.
