Three Chester class scout cruisers (CS-1 through CS-3) were completed for the U.S. Navy in 1908. THey were later redesignated as light cruisers (CL-1 through CL-3).
Design & Construction
Armament
They were armed as follows.[1]
Guns
Originally:
- two 5-in 50cal Mark 6, fore and aft
- six 3-in 50cal
1917-18:
- four 5-in 51cal
- two 3-in 50cal
- one 3-in H.A. gun
Torpedoes
Originally:
- two 21-in tubes submerged on the broadside
1917-18:
- two 21-in tubes, above water
