Rear-Admiral Cyril Herbert Gordon Benson, D.S.O.*, R.N. (17 February, 1884 – 17 March, 1974) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Borin in Myrtlehurst, Croyden, Benson gained two and a half months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Benson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1906.[1]

Benson was awarded the Shadwell Testimonial in 1910 for a survey conducted in Algerine of the area from Punta de Parinas[?] to Punto Lobos.[2]

Benson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1914.[3]

Awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal in September 1916 for lifesaving at sea when a cutter met an accident on 1 November 1915.[4]

Benson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[5]

Post-War

Benson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1924.[6]

Benson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral in January, 1936.[7]

World War II
