Admiral SIR Geoffrey Nigel Oliver, G.B.E., K.C.B., D.S.O.** (22 January, 1898 – 26 May, 1980) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Oliver was a special entry to the September, 1915 intake term at Royal Naval College, Osborne.

Awarded the Goodenough Medal and the Commander Egerton Prize.

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1918.[1]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1926.[2]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.[3]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1937.[4]

World War II

Commanded Hermione from her commissioning for service on 30 October 1940 until 16 June, 1942.[5][6]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1945.[7]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 3 February, 1949.[8]

Oliver was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 15 May, 1952.[9]

Oliver was placed on the Retired List on 1 December, 1955. For some reason, he was reverted to it on 27 December, 1955.[10]
