H.M.S. A 3 (1903)
Builder: Vickers[1]
Launched: 9 Mar, 1903[2]
Rammed: 2 Feb, 1912[3]
Fate: by Hazard
H.M.S. A 3 was one of thirteen "A" class coastal submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

In April, 1911, A 3 was one of the four "A" class and one "D" class boats comprising the Portsmouth Submarine Flotilla.[4]

A 3 was lost with all on board when she was rammed by Hazard on 2 February, 1912. Curiously, she was under the command of Frank Thompson Ormand when she was lost, though service records indicate that Charles Worthington Craven was to be spending his last day in command on the unfortunate occasion of her loss.
