H.M.S. Alexandra (1875)

The central battery ironclad H.M.S. Alexandra was completed in 1877 for the Royal Navy. She was laid down as H.M.S. Superb, conceived as a beamier Sultan with increased armour and weaponry. She was renamed before launch, in 1874.[6]

Construction and Service

Paid off 2 March, 1886.

In February, 1888, she was flagship on the Mediterranean Station.[7]

Re-commissioned at Devonport on 8 March 1891 to replace Northumberland.[8]
