Service

Eden departed Sheerness on 27 January, 1910 as part of a flotilla of seven for scout patrol exercises under the lead of the scout cruiser H.M.S. Patrol. Enduring bad weather throughout, they hove to in at Dover. The weather worsened after 9pm and at 2am on the 29th, Eden tore free of her moorings. She fired rockets and fired guns to alert others of her plight and was soon dashed on the rocks near a sea wall, illuminated by searchlights from Albemarle and Venus. Commander Stokes saw that his crew were arranged on deck with lifebelts on as the coastguards fired lines by rockets from the seawall. In a half-hour, all 53 aboard were safely ashore. After lying at a 45° angle as the tide retreated, she was floated on 30 January.[9][10] The rest of the flotilla left for eight days of exercises as Eden was taken in hand for repairing her considerable damage. Her repairs were completed by 5 July 1910.[11]

Eden completed a re-tubing refit on 11 April, 1913 and was re-commissioned at Haulbowline for service with the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla, where she replaced the Wear.[12]

In March, 1915, she moved to join the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla, a Patrol Flotilla in Home and Atlantic Waters. She stayed only until August, when she transferred to the Portsmouth Local Defence Flotilla.
