The masted turret ship H.M.S. Inflexible was launched in 1876 for the Royal Navy but not completed until 1881.

Design and Construction

Service

Commissioned at Portsmouth on 1 July, 1890 for service in the Mediterranean under Captain Henry C. Kane.[6]

On 12 October, 1897 the ship was paid off and her crew sent to the second class battleship Trafalgar the followeing day so that Inflexible could undergo an extensive refit to greatly increase her secondary battery.[7]
