H.M. T.B. 28 (1885)
Builder: Thornycroft[1]
Ordered: 30/31 March, 1885[2]
Launched: 7 November, 1885[3]
Stranded: 29 July, 1898[4]
H.M. T.B. 28 was one of fifty-three first-class torpedo boats of the 125 Footer class.

Construction

Like all Thornycroft 125-footers, she was built with a low "bull nose" bow that included a fixed torpedo tube that proved "totally unseaworthy" and was ultimately rebuilt with a conventional straight steam without a torpedo tube.[5]

Service

In 1895, she was one of four first-class T.B.s stationed at the Cape of Good Hope.[6]

T.B. 28 was stranded on 29 July, 1898 in Kalk Bay, South Africa. Although she was apparently salvaged later she proved beyond worthwhile repair and was sunk as a target that December.[7]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
