Henry Leslie Spofforth Baker

Commander (retired) Henry Leslie Spofforth Baker, O.B.E. (10 May, 1900 – 2 August, 1961) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Solicitor H. M. Baker (d 24 Dec 1916).

In February 1919 there was a Court of Enquiry into the collision of boats from Commonwealth and Tintagel. Baker was cautioned to be more careful in future.[1]

Baker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1920. In February 1922 he was admitted to hostpial in Cologne following injuries.[2]

Baker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1928.[3]


World War II

Lent to Royal Hellenic Navy, Baker lived in Salamis Dockyard and assisted the Greek submarine forces.[4]

He was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander on 10 May, 1945 and re-appointed. He reverted to the List as medically unfit on 5 October, 1946.[5]
