Captain (retired) James Browning Young, (5 February, 1847 – 24 March, 1926) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Young was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 6 February, 1872.[1] He served in the iron screw troopship Euphrates during the ZUlu War in South Africa in 1877-79, and was awarded the Zulu Medal.[2]

On 13 July, 1876, he jumped into the sea to save a Royal Marine Artillery gunner.[3]

Young was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1886.[4]

Young was retired on account of age with the rank of Captain on 5 September, 1897.[5]
