Commander (retired) John Gordon Aitchison, O.B.E., R.N. (5 August, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Aitchison was born the son of Stephen W. Aitchison, Esq., the Director of a Public Company.

Aitchison passed out of Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in April, 1910 ranked 31st of 77 cadets in marks on the Part I examination.[1]

Aitchison was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 January, 1916.

He was appointed to Dolphin for a submarine course on 14 February, 1916, lasting through 1 April, when he was sent to Bonaventure for service in submarines. On 16 July, he was appointed to D 8, where he remained until being appointed to E 39 on 21 August. Superseded in E 39 on 29 November, 1916, he went to Cleopatra until 16 October, 1918.

Aitchison was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 January, 1924.

Aitchison was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 1 November, 1935.
