Reginald Yorke Smith

Captain (retired) Reginald Yorke Smith, C.M.G., R.N. (20 January, 1851 – ) served in the Royal Navy. He changed his name to Reginald Yorke Heriz at some point around 1890 – I cannot find the date of the change.

Life & Career

Smith was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 25 October, 1870.[1]

Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 October, 1874.[2]

On 8 October, 1884, he was appointed to the turret ship Agamemnon.[3]

Court Martial for stranding the gunboat Starling on 22 April, 1887. He was dismissed by sentence of a Court Martial.

Smith was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1889.

Heriz was placed on the Retired List as unfit for further service on 28 February, 1893. His Service Record contains a surprising glut of information post-retirement which I have yet to process. He was advanced to the rank of Captain (retired) on 24 April, 1902.[4]
