Captain (retired) Richard Evan Williams Kirby, D.S.O. (1 September, 1883 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Kirby was born in Kobē, Japan.

Kirby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1904.

Kirby passed as an Interpreter in Japanese in October 1911.

Kirby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1912.

Kirby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.

Kirby was appointed in command of the destroyer Ness on 28 June, 1918.[1]

Kirby was placed opn the Retired List at his own request in July 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 September, 1928.
