Hamilton, lent to the Irish administration.  Hall died suddenly at his home, 28, Craven Hill Gardens, on 11 June.  He left a personal estate valued at £10,027 11s. 1d.

Vice-Admiral Robert Hall, C.B., R.N., Retired (5 July, 1817 – 11 June, 1882) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Robert "Breck" Hall, born in Canada, entered the Royal Navy in 1835, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 November, 1843.

Hall was promoted to the rank of Commander on 6 September, 1852. On 27 September he was appointed to Agamemnon, and was superseded in her on 21 March, 1853. On 10 August of that year he was appointed in command of the paddle sloop Stromboli, which during the Crimean War was sent to the Black Sea. On 13 May, 1855, Hall was appointed Acting Captain in command of the paddle frigate Gladiator.

Hall was promoted to the rank of Captain on 24 June, 1855, and on the same day was appointed Captain of the screw sloop Miranda, in a death vacancy, which appointment was confirmed on 24 July. He gave up command on 21 April, 1857. On 27 January, 1859, Hall was appointed in command of the new steam corvette Termagent, which saw service in the Channel Squadron and South American waters. He gave up command on 9 January, 1863.

From 27 April, 1863, to 22 March, 1866, Hall served as Private Secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty, the Duke of Somerset. On 7 July he reached the mandatory retirement age of 55 under the provisions of the Order in Council of 22 February, 1870. On 30 April, 1873, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral, on the Retired List, and to the rank of Vice-Admiral, on the Retired List, on 21 March, 1878.
