The Seventh Light Cruiser Squadron existed for less than a year in the Great War period.

History

March, 1918

The formation is born, created from Penelope, Undaunted, Aurora and Carysfort from the Harwich Force's Fifth Light Cruiser Squadron. Carysfort is noted as being expected to arrive shortly, and would be in place by April.[5]

These particulars would persist until May.[6]

May, 1918

The same roster, but Carysfort now flies the broad pendant of a Commodore, 2nd class.[7]

The formation would be in this form until some time between September and November.[8]

November, 1918

The squadron has been bolstered by the addition of Cleopatra, and Carysfort now flies the flag of a Rear-Admiral (though in December only it would be labelled as a temporary flag).[9] The precise date of the flag change may more accurately be tied to Borrett's promotion to Rear-Admiral on 16 August, 1918.[10]

The formation would be in this form until some time between February and March, 1919.[11]

March, 1919

The formation is disestablished some time in February or March. Four cruisers have been placed in Reserve or otherwise sent to Home Ports: Penelope and Undaunted have been sent to The Nore, Cleopatra has gone to Portsmouth, and Aurora to Devonport. Carysfort is listed as being in commission and on "Miscellaneous Service."[12]
