Construction
Richmond's hull was designed by Samuel T. Hartt. Her machinery was designed by Samuel Archbold and constructed at the Washington Navy Yard.[8]
Service
Her original engines proved unsuccessful and they were replaced by ones designed by Benjamin F. Isherwood at the Washington Navy Yard during 1864 and 1865.[9]
Richmond served as a receiving ship at League Island Navy Yard from 1894 through 1903 and Norfolk Navy Yard from 1903 until 1919. She was stricken on on 31 June, 1919, sold on 23 July, 1919, and broken up at Philadelphia.[10]
