Three Arctic class refrigerator ships were acquired by the U.S. Navy in 1921.

Design & Construction

All three Arctics began life as freighters ordered from Moore Shipbuilding of Oakland, California under contract from the United States Shipping Board. They were acquired by the U.S. Navy in 1921.
