Colonel Commandant (Royal Marines)

Colonel Commandant was a senior appointment in the Royal Marine Forces. Colonels Commandant were appointed by selection from officers who held the substantive rank of Colonel or Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Marine Artillery and the Royal Marine Light Infantry. From 1913, by an Order in Council, the five Colonels Commandant then in the Royal Marine Forces were granted the rank (not appointment) of Brigadier-General.
