H.M.S. Rainbow was one of twenty Apollo class second-class cruisers completed in the early to mid 1890s.
She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1910, becoming H.M.C.S. Rainbow.
Service
Rainbow underwent natural draught trials off Plymouth on 13 May 1892, attaining an average of 19.45 knots over eight hours at 7,780 H.P., 780 more than stipulated in her contract. Her forced draught trials delivered 20.2 knots at a power of 9,681 I.H.P., 681 in excess of the contractual minimum.[6][7]
Her first service appears to be her participation in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1893 under the command of Count Frederick Cosmeto Metaxa.
Rainbow was commissioned on 4 August, 1910 for transfer to Esquimalt for service in the Royal Canadian Navy.Template:RCNL1910-14
