U.S.S. S-48 was one of fifty-one "S" Class submarines completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

After sinking once on a test dive prior to commissioning, S-48 was buffed up and commissioned on 14 October, 1922 at Bridgeport with Lieutenant Stuart E. Bray in command.
