William St. Clair Fleming
Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. William St. Clair Fleming, D.S.C. ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Fleming was promoted to the rank of Temporary Sub-Lieutenant R.N.R. on 14 September, 1914 and was assigned to the Peterhead Minesweeping Flotilla. He was appointed to the trawler Stephen Furness on 19 January 1915.[1]
Fleming was promoted to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 April, 1915. He was admitted to Queensferry Hospital for a disease of the glands on 14 July 1915. ON 26 August, he suffered shock when he was in trawler Jasper when she was blown up in the North Sea. He was landed at Wick.[2]
On 30 October 1918 he was acquitted at Court Martial on a charge of having neglifently or by default suffered the loss of A.P.V. Pur[illeg]. By the time of his demobilisation on 31 January, 1920, he was regarded as a specialist in minesweeping.[3]
