Basil George Washington, C.M.G., D.S.O., Royal Navy (6 August, 1877 – 25 August, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Bedford, Washington was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1900.[1]
On 30 July, 1906, Washington was appointed in command of the destroyer Banshee. In 1908, Banshee collided with Boxer, and blame was assigned to Washington.[2]
Washington was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913. He was appointed to Powerful that same day and remained about one year as war broke out.
The Great War
On 24 November, 1914 Washington left Powerful and was appointed to the armoured cruiser Bacchante. He would remain with her until she was paid off on 10 February, 1916.[3]
Washington was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1919.[4]
World War II
He is presumed to have died 25 August, 1940, likely in action.[5]
