Captain (retired) John Ignatius Hallett, D.S.O., R.N. (24 June, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Hallett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1907.[1]
Hallett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 December, 1915.[2]
Hallett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1920.[3]
Hallett was promoted to the rank of Captain on 23 June, 1932 and placed on the Retired List the next day at his own request.[4]
Hallett proposed a new type of torpedo director around 1910, which came to be referred to as Hallett's Director.[5]
Hallett was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 36 on 9 January, 1912.[6]
His torpedo director was tried at sea and rejected by the Royal Navy's Torpedo School in 1914.[7]
Hallett was appointed to Implacable for command of the trawler Joseph Connell on 5 August, 1918. He left her on 3 February, 1919 when he was appointed to command the patrol boat P17.[8]
