Lieutenant-Commander Richard George Kirby Knowling, (12 June, 1903 – 28 May, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Knowling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 April, 1926.[1]

Knowling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 April, 1934.[2]

Knowling commanded the destroyer Kimberley from 20 November 1939 to 1 May, 1940.[3]

Knowling's death was somewhat mysterious, as he simply vanished from H.M.S. Vimy in heavy weather on the night of 27/28 May, 1940. It is presumed that he fell overboard while she manoeuvred.
