Admiral SIR Hilary Gustavus Andoe, K.C.B., Royal Navy (19 February, 1841 – 11 February, 1905) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the latter half of the 19th Century and first few years of the 20th.
Life & Career
Andoe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 13 March, 1861.
In 1869, Andoe was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for saving life from drowning.[1]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 5 February, 1872, Andoe was promoted to the rank of Commander with seniority of 6 February of that year.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 25 March, 1878.[3]
Andoe was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1894.[4] In July, he was appointed as an umpire in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1894.
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral dated 20 November, 1899, vice Vander-Meulen.[5]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 22 February, 1870, Andoe was placed on the Retired List on 19 February, 1901.[6] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 16 June, 1904.[7]
Andoe was knighted and appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 26 June, 1902.[8]
