Staff Surgeon was a rank attained by doctors serving in the Naval Medical Service of the Royal Navy. It's Executive branch equivalent was Commander.
Through an Order in Council of 8 November, 1918, the style of the rank was altered to Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander.[1]
