H.M.S. C 2 was one of thirty-eight "C" class coastal submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
On 25 October, 1909 she was one of three "C" class boats to arrive at Sheerness Dockyard from Harwich to await a refit which would include a new pattern bridge. This work had just been completed on C 7, C 8 and C 9.[5]
C 2's Lt. Cdr. Herbert W. Shove was told to be more careful in future after the submarine collided with Hebe on 25 April, 1914.
Arrived in Sheerness with C 5 and C 6, also assigned to the Fifth Submarine Flotilla, on 28 May, 1914.[6]
