Captain (retired) Basil Lyall Johnston, (30 August, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Lt. Colonel J. Johnston of the Royal Artillery was born in Simla, India.[1]
Johnston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 November, 1909. He qualified for torpedo duties in July, 1913. He was appointed as torpedo officer in King George V on 23 May, 1916 and fought in her at the Battle of Jutland.[2]
Johnston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 November, 1917.[3]
Johnston was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1922.[4]
Johnston was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Captain on 2 September, 1935.[5]
World War II
Some service, likely at the Admiralty.
In 1948 he was granted permission to proceed abroad to Switzerland.[6]
