Lieutenant (Temporary) Lloyd Van Horn Armstrong, (22 July, 1891 – 31 May, 1977) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Armstrong was born in Indiana but was appointed to the Naval Academy from Tennessee, graduating with the Class of 1915 and being commissioned Ensign on 5 June, 1915.[1] In his short active duty career he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (Junior Grade) on 5 June, 1918 and to the temporary rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1917.[2]
He saw service on battleships following graduation, but was serving in submarines by early 1918.[3] He was appointed to his only command, submarine C-3, from late 1918 into 1919.[4][5]
Armstrong resigned his commission on 19 November, 1919.{{USOfficerReg1920|p. 450</ref> A week later he joined the naval reserve, where he remained until 1951. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the reserves on 1 January, 1924. There is no available evidence of active duty service on his part during World War II.
