Commander (retired) Eric Ronald Arthur Farquharson, (9 June, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Cdr. A. J. Farquharson, R.N. passed out of Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in April, 1910 ranked 65th of 77 cadets in marks on the Part I examination.[1]

Farquharson was appointed to the third class protected cruiser Pyramus in May 1914 and was promoted in the ship to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1916. He remained with the ship until she paid off in August 1916. On 18 December 1916 he was appointed to the light cruiser Concord.[2]

He left Concord for Valiant on 10 August, 1918.[3]

Farquharson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1924.[4]

Placed on the Retired List at his own request with a gratuity of £1600 on 7 May, 1928 Farquharson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 9 June, 1933.[5]

World War II

He commanded the Template:UK-Amicus and served as Senior Officer, Auxiliary Patrol Flotillas from 23 July 1940 to 1 October, 1940.

He commanded the new Template:UK-Romney from 9 October, 1940 to 31 May 1941.

He commanded the Template:UK-Cromer as Senior Officer, Ninth Minesweeping Flotilla vice Coles, from 31 May 1941 to 13 June 1941. He continued to lead the 9th M.S.F. when he moved back to command Romney, vice Coles, from 13 June 1941.

He commanded the Template:UK-Athene vice Hill, from 5 September 1942 to 26 February, 1943.
