Captain R.N.R. (retired) Ernest Matson Fall, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R. (17 February, 1883 – 21 September, 1955) served in the Royal Naval Reserve. He would become a master mariner and captain great liners in the early 1940s.
Life & Career
Fall was born in Oswestry, Shropshire.[1]
Fall was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1915, having been appointed to the battleship Bellerophon on 8 July. He fought in her at the Battle of Jutland. On 28 July 1917, he was appointed to Gentian for navigation duties.[2]
Fall was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1923.[3]
Fall was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 31 December, 1926.[4]
Fall was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain R.N.R. on 20 February, 1933.[5]
