S.M.S. UC 55 was one of 64 submarines of the UC II class.

Service

She was sunk just south of Lerwick on 29 September, 1917 by the destroyer Tirade and other convoy escorts after suffering a diving misadventure during a minelaying operation which left her leaking and unfit to submerge.

In 2023, her wreck was identified by divers, lying 8 miles southeast of Lerwick.[7]
