H.M.S. Duchess was one of fourteen "C" and "D" Class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Re-commissioned at Chatham on 30 March, 1933 for service with the First Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[3]
Re-commissioned at Chatham on 25 October, 1934 for service with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla, operating on the China Station.[4]
Re-commissioned on 11 December, 1935 for service with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla, operating on the China Station.[5]
On 12 December 1939 Duchess collided with the battleship Barham which she was escorting to the Clyde as they were nearing their destination north of Belfast. The destroyer was cut in half with heavy loss of life.
