Lieutenant Francis Eckley Oakeley, R.N. (5 February, 1891 – c. 1 December, 1914) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of a Clerk in Holy Orders.
Oakeley served in London, Invincible, Temeraire, Warrior, Ure, Dreadnought, Formidable and Illustrious before being promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 30 November, 1911.[1]
Oakeley was appointed to Dolphin for instruction in submarines on 13 January, 1913. On 21 April, he was appointed to Onyx for service in the "A" class submarines of the First Submarine Flotilla. He promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 November, 1913.[2]
Oakeley was appointed to the submarine D 2 on 26 September 1914 and would die in her when she was lost to unknown cause off the German coast sometime between 25 November and 1 December, 1914, the latter date being used for official purposes.[3]
