H.M.S. Leander was completed in 1885 as one of four second class protected cruisers of the Leander class, but she served as a depot ship in the Great War.
Construction
Her trials were interrupted when defects in her pistons were discovered. After repairs and some alterations, she resumed her trials in the Medway in September 1883.[6]
Service
In June 1904 she completed conversion to a depot ship for destroyers.[7] In mid-1913, she was acting as depot ship for the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla, and was still there when the war started.
