Hubert Seeds Monroe
Vice-Admiral Hubert Seeds Monroe, D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (4 November, 1877 – 15 July, 1966) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1900.[1]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Dasher on 3 August, 1906.[2]
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1912.[3]
On 14 April, 1913, he was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 113.[4]
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1918.[5]
On 15 October 1918, he assumed command of the old second class protected cruiser Venus as flag captain to Rear-Admiral Gaunt.[6]
He was appointed in command of Thunderer in September, 1925.
He was appointed in command of the battleship H.M.S. Barham in December, 1927, remaining with her for just two months, at which time he assumed command of Ramillies.
Monroe was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 August, 1929, vice A. K. Betty.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1934.[8]
