Service
On 23 October 1890, Mr. Durston, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Navy visited Portsmouth to inspect Seagull's machinery to try to ascertain why she was "constantly smashing the blades of her screw propellers." She was at that time slated to replace Rattlesnake as tender to H.M.S. Vernon.[6]
In 1908, she and the four other survivors were taken in hand for conversion to minesweepers.[7]
