H.M.S. Phaeton (1883)
Builder: Napier, Glasgow[1]
Laid down: 14 Jun, 1880[2]
Launched: 27 Feb, 1883[3]
Commissioned: 20 Apr, 1886[4]
Sold: 1947[5]

H.M.S. Phaeton was one of four second class protected cruisers of the Leander class completed between 1885 and 1887.

There was also a light cruiser named Phaeton that fought in the Great War.

Service

Re-commissioned at Malta on 18 March, 1890.[6]

Phaeton was due to begin refitting at Esquimalt at the end of December 1901, but this was delayed by the disappearance of the sloop Condor during a cruise from Esquimalt to Honolulu. Phaeton was sent out to search for the Condor on 20 January, 1902.[7]
