Lieutenant Ralph Laurence Dodge, (4 November, 1895 – 11 March, 1983) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Dodge was born in Massachusetts and attended Harvard University, graduating in early 1917 shortly after the United States entered World War I. He received a temporary commission as an Ensign in the Regular Navy on 15 September, 1917, and was eventually promoted to the temporary rank of Lieutenant on 21 September, 1918 before resigning his commission on 14 November, 1918.[1][2][3][4]
Dodge's naval service was in small antisubmarine craft, including submarine chasers and Eagle Boats. Sources are vague as to the details of his service, though he did serve on patrol craft Eagle 11 while that vessel was fitting out in early 1919. Other sources indicate he briefly commanded patrol craft Eagle 5 in 1918 and patrol craft Eagle 39 in late 1919.[5][6][7]
Following his naval service Dodge returned to Harvard and earned a Ph.D. He worked for the DuPont Corporation until his retirement in 1955 and resided in Delaware until his death in 1983.[8][9]
