Rear-Admiral Albert Sumner Lafone, C.B.E., F.R.Z.S., Royal Navy, Retired (14 October, 1863 – 26 December, 1933) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Lafone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 30 June, 1886.[1]

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Havock on 14 January, 1896.[2]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 30 June, 1899.[3]

Lafone was promoted to the rank of Captain dated 30 June, 1905.[4]

In 1907, he was placed in command of the first class protected cruiser Ariadne.

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 6 April, 1908.[5]

Lafone was appointed to President, additional, for fitting out Armed Merchant Cruisers on 3 August, 1914. On the 25th of August, this work ceased. On 12 November, he was made Captain Superintending Equipment of Armed Vessels, [illeg] Docks.

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List dated 5 December, 1915.

Lafone was appointed as Senior Naval Officer, Port of London on 6 December, 1916. On 15 August, 1919, he reverted to the Retired List.[6]
