This category contains those officers who studied at Messrs. Philpott & Pugh – a private preparatory school for boys wishing to apply for entrance to the Royal Navy through competitive examinations. It was located in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, and was one of only a few "crammer" schools seemingly in operation in 1911, when two of its graduates were among the seventy-one candidates accepted for the May, 1911 intake term at Royal Naval College, Osborne.
