Charles Gwillim Robinson
Captain (retired) Charles Gwillim Robinson (8 April, 1881 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of gentleman Nicholas Robinson was born in English Frankton, Ellesmere.
In 1900, he was noted by Hannibal's Captain Walker as being "athletic, but very dense."[1]
Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1903.[2]
Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1911.[3]
Robinson was appointed to the scout cruiser Pathfinder as first and gunnery officer on 23 September, 1913. He was fortunate to survive her torpedoing and loss in the North Sea on 5 September, 1914. He was appointed to the armed merchant cruiser Teutonic as gunnery officer on 11 September, 1914.[4]
Robinson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915 and would leave Teutonic in July. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed in command of the seaplane carrier Engadine on 19 August, 1915. He would command her at the Battle of Jutland.[5][6]
In December 1916, he was appointed from Engadine to command of the seaplane carrier Manxman.[7]
Robinson was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 7 April, 1920 and promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 8 April, 1926.[8]
